Occam Power Solutions (OPS) was founded to design and produce high reliability high performance electric power solutions.  Our original offerings focused on high reliability battery management, keeping large format lithium-ion batteries healthy and providing robust safety features to ensure that the packs are serviceable. These designs delivered industry leading performance enabling our customers to enter the market quickly with the very best technology available.  They also allowed us to raise the bar regarding what should be expected of an truly automotive grade battery management system.  Everything you need, nothing you don't.

As our company has grown, so have our offerings.  We now provide full electric vehicle powertrain designs and design services including large format battery packs, battery management systems (still a core part of our business), state of the art high frequency/high efficiency motor inverters/controllers, and high performance motor design and prototyping.  In addition to these power systems technologies which form the core of Occam Power Solutions, we also have ballistics and radio system design experience, enabling us to provide offerings in the defense industry through Occam Defense Solutions.

David Giessel is the Vice President of Product Development of Occam Power Solutions and a member of its Board of Directors.

As VP of Product Development, David's primary role is ensuring that products meet the needs of real customers, perform to industrial standards, and deliver long term value.  His duties involve managing project scope while continually evaluating emerging technologies in the energy storage space, ensuring that OPS products are leading edge, highly focused, and effective.

Through his personal consulting business, David has provided engineering services for applications including radio module development, drone/UAV electrical and mechanical design, specialized low magnetic field system design, and design of battery management systems ranging from 1 to 91 cells.  Much of his career has been spent in the drone/UAV industry performing a wide range of work including developing prototype solutions for unique applications, operating vehicles for scientific research, and working as a field application engineer (FAE) supporting industrial UAVs.  In the FAE role he traveled throughout Latin America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, developing business and communiations skills required for successful interfacing across lingustic and cultural barriers.  This work also provided him with an in-depth understanding of how industrial product requirements fundamentally differ from those in the consumer space.

David holds a B.S. in Electrical Engieering and M.S. in Electrical Engineering with a focus on low power embedded systems from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Brian Keeney is the Vice President of Engineering of Occam Power Solutions and a member of its Board of Directors. 

As VP of Engineering, Brian drives the company’s overall technology strategy and leads the engineering team in developing our industry leading battery management systems.  He also ensures that our products meet exceptionally rigorous design criteria that ensure boring reliability and uncompromising safety.

Previously, Brian ran a successful consulting firm, OSW-Physics Inc., in designing battery management systems for vehicles and stationary battery banks ranging from 48V to 400V.  His previous career in High Energy Physics gave him a wealth of experience in high reliability, fail safe systems including x-ray generators.  Like the world of energy storage, x-ray systems risk great harm to users if safety systems fail.  He also designed x-ray cameras which rely on measurement of single electrons in close proximity to high noise environments of 50,000 volts or more.  These challenging design environments forge skills that apply extremely well to making reliable, high performance battery management systems with a relentless commitment to simplicity and cost effectiveness.

Brian holds a B.S. in Physics and M.S. in Physics with a focus on instrumentation from the University of California at Santa Cruz.
